47 The University does not charge any tuition fees. Only long-term study fees (»Langzeitstudiengebühren«) apply if you are studying too long. Financing various services, the University collects a semester contribution which is then re-distributed to several service providers. The contribution is due before every semester begins and may vary from year to year. Paying the semester contribution, you are signalling that you are about to continue your studies in the next semester. In this semester, the semester contribution amounts to €252.80. As a new student, you paid additional €20 for issuing the thoska card. The semester fee comprises the following services: €156.55 semester ticket covering trips with the regional trains in Thuringia, Jena local public transport, and within the network of Verkehrsverbund Mittelthüringen €85.00 basic contribution to Studierendenwerk Thüringen (StuWe) €4.25 culture ticket €7.00 contribution to the student body €252.80 semester contribution You can find out what StuWe and StuRa finance with your money for your well-being during the semester on their websites or in the corresponding chapters of this brochure. To see your personal information relating to the semester fee, please log in to Friedolin and go to »Information on Re-Registration«. You will also be reminded to pay the semester contribution every semester by email sent to your university email address. The deadlines for transferring the semester fee to the University’s bank account are always the same: 15 August for the winter semester and 15 February for the summer semester, i.e. always in the middle of the previous semester.
